Clin. Psych. Gürler Güz

Clinical Psychologist Gürler Güz studied psychology at Haliç University and went on to Üsküdar University's Clinical Psychology master's program, graduating with the thesis "Predictors of Treatment Motivation in Substance Users: An Examination in Terms of Substance Type and Personality Dimensions." Doctoral studies in the Psychology Program at Üsküdar University are now under way. As an undergraduate, Güz volunteered as an intern at the Psychiatry Clinic of Ondokuz Mayıs University, NPİSTANBUL Hospital, Bakırköy Hospital for Mental and Nervous Disorders and Erenköy Hospital for Mental and Nervous Disorders.

Clinical and teaching work

Güz joined NPİSTANBUL Hospital in October 2015 and works in its AMATEM (alcohol and substance addiction treatment) unit. Since September 2016 Güz has also taught part-time at Üsküdar University, covering Positive Psychology and Communication Skills, Psychological Tests and Assessment, Alcohol and Substance Use Disorders and Behavioural Addictions, Family Approach in Addiction, and Group Therapies in Addiction Treatment.

Research and publications

In 2019 Güz presented papers titled "Psychometric Assessment in Addicted Patients with Co-occurring ADHD" and "An Overview of Online Addictions." Other studies have addressed panic disorder, depersonalization, treatment motivation and the scales used in addiction. Work on pathological gambling addiction entered the literature in 2017, and the article "State-trait anxiety levels in Turkey during the COVID-19 pandemic and its relationship to somatosensory amplification" appeared in 2021.

Book chapter contributions include "Psychology of Elderly Patients Before and After Surgery" (2020) and, in 2021, "Initial Interview and History-Taking in Addiction" and "Self-Report Scales and Neuropsychological Tests Used in ADHD."

Gürler Güz currently practises as a Clinical Psychologist at NPİSTANBUL Hospital.
