Clin. Psych. Ayşe Şahin Kanbur

Clinical Psychologist Ayşe Şahin Kanbur is a native of Denizli. She received her degree in psychology from Istanbul Aydın University in 2014, graduating with high honours, and in 2015 completed a Teacher Certification Program at Bahçeşehir University. She then went on to a master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Üsküdar University.

Her student placements included the psychiatry outpatient clinic of Denizli State Hospital, the Institute for Marriage Therapy, the Atatürk Girls' Boarding School and NPİSTANBUL Hospital. Once she had her bachelor's degree, she spent two years at the Beyaz Ev Special Education Center, offering education and psychotherapy to families of children with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities. From 2016 to 2018 she worked with children and families at the Self Psychology Academy and Counseling Center and at Yeşilköşk Private Preschool, where her work covered psychological counseling, assessment and evaluation, and training seminars. She joined NPİSTANBUL Hospital as a clinical psychologist in 2018.

Clinical approach

Ms. Kanbur is trained in play therapy for children aged 3 to 12, a method that treats play as a symbolic language through which children can work through their conflicts.

With children and adolescents who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or difficulties with impulse control, she uses the Play Attention training program, having received coaching training in it from the Institute for the Gifted (ÜZE). The program builds core skills such as attention, memory, task completion, following instructions and planning.

Her psychotherapy with adults, children and adolescents follows a cognitive-behavioural approach, which she applies in particular to behavioural problems, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder in young people.
