Bipolar Disorder Test (Mood Disorder Questionnaire, MDQ)
- 16 questions
- About 4 minutes
- For adults
These tests are for screening. A result is not a diagnosis: only a psychiatrist or psychologist can make one, after talking with you.
Your answers are scored on this device and never sent. Only your result is saved, with the email address you confirm.
Confirm your email address
Before the test we send a 6-digit code to your email address. Your result is saved with it, so that our team can help you if you wish. The email with the code contains no health information.
Answer the questions “Yes” or “No” thinking about any period of your life; for the last question, choose the option that fits you best.
Choosing an answer takes you to the next question. You can go back at any time.
Your result
Positive screen
Your answers meet the screening criteria of the questionnaire: at least 7 of the 13 symptoms, some of them occurring during the same period, and moderate or serious problems as a result. This is not a diagnosis, but it calls for a thorough assessment for bipolar disorder; we recommend that you see a psychiatrist.
Symptoms present, not all criteria met
You reported at least 7 of the 13 symptoms, but at least one of the other criteria - the symptoms occurring in the same period, or causing moderate or serious problems - was not met. Even so, it would be helpful to talk about these periods with a psychiatrist.
Negative screen
The number of symptoms you reported is below the screening threshold of the questionnaire (7). This does not rule out bipolar disorder completely; if you have marked ups and downs in your mood, you can talk to a specialist.
- Number of symptoms (out of 13)
- out of 13
Take your result as a rough guide, not a diagnosis. How you feel over time, and a conversation with a specialist, tell much more than a questionnaire.
Talk it through with a specialist
If your result worries you, or you would like to talk it through, our psychiatrists can review it with you, free and without obligation.
